A Living Water

The Shoot

This baptism video idea came to me a couple of months ago, but I did not realize how challenging but rewarding this project would be. With a complete change of pace from shooting sports, I came to learn how much planning was needed for a shoot like this. I had a 1-hour slot with both my actors on location, but the biggest concern I had going in was that I had one chance to get the shot of going under. Once they were wet, that would be it, and I would have to take that shot. So, in hindsight, I would have had a more detailed game plan on my required shots. The other issue was that the water was pretty cold, and my lack of quickness made them shiver. I did not have enough b-roll from the hour shoot on one day and ended up returning to re-shoot some be-roll of the water etc.…

Editing

I quickly realized that a traditional track would not work for music. I took all the stems from a track and laid them specifically in Garageband to hit different beats. The motion graphics in the edit took a lot of time as well, but I think the effort was worth it and added something pretty good to the edit.

Final Product

I think the final product was worth the countless hours, and I can’t wait to see this played in service in a couple weeks for a baptism service coming up.

Location of the shoot.

Creating a sound bed for the track.

A favorite still from the shoot.
